Missy Slay is a veteran St. Louis event planner who has managed some of the community’s biggest events and festivals, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to St. Louis each year. Through her consulting firm, Slay Event Management and Consulting (SEMAC), Missy plans, manages and consults a wide variety of events each year.
SEMAC’s services include event conceptualization and planning; vendor, venue and catering selection and management; entertainment production; sponsorship solicitation and budget management; on-site production; and event PR and marketing.
A sports enthusiast, Missy has served as the executive director for the Local Organizing Committee on behalf of the community’s biggest sporting events, including the 2005 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® basketball tournament. The tournament attracted 54,000 fans and generated an economic impact of $71.9 million for St. Louis. Missy served as the executive director of the 2001 and 2009 NCAA® Women’s Final Four® basketball tournaments as well, earning recognition for coordinating some of the most successful NCAA® Women’s Final Fours® ever.
In 2009, Missy was part of the Local Organizing Committee that hosted Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in St. Louis. The All-Star Game included all-star entertainment outside of Busch Stadium, including FanFest at the Edward Jones Dome and the Pepsi Charity Concert featuring Sheryl Crow.
From 2005-2009, Missy orchestrated the region’s premier free
music festival as executive director of the Fair Saint Louis Foundation,
producer of the Fair Saint Louis Fourth of July spectacular and LIVE on
the Levee music summer weekend festivals. Held annually
under the Gateway Arch, Fair St. Louis and LIVE on the Levee bring
together corporate sponsors to host some of the most successful free
community events in the country. Fair St. Louis/LIVE on the Levee
attracts top musical acts from a diverse array of musical genres, and
pairs them with local talent, children’s activities, and festival fare
for six weeks of summer fun.
Missy has long partnered with the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission on many city-wide events, including the community’s newest annual holiday festival, Holiday Magic. Holiday Magic brings the excitement of a holiday light display to the indoor warmth of the Convention Center and adds in family fun, holiday shopping with unique local vendors, a beer garden and live entertainment.
Missy is a graduate of Catholic University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications. She was named to the St. Louis Business Journal’s “40 under 40” list in 2000 and in 2005 recognized as a “St. Louis Influential”, a business and community leader who is making a definite impact on the region. She also joined the likes of Bob Costas, Jack Buck and Buzz Westfall as a recipient of the Sam Muchnick Sportsman Award from the MS Society recognizing her business leadership and entrepreneurial spirit that makes a meaningful difference within the St. Louis sports community.
Missy proudly gives back to her hometown by serving on the Boards of Directors of Cor Jesu Academy, Ready Readers, and The Diversity Awareness Partnership. She is also active with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the MS Society.
